Hold — Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026

What we collect

When you open Hold, an anonymous account is created so your data can be restored if you reinstall the app. We do not collect your name or any identifying information. Your danger windows, triggers, emotional drivers, and session history are synced to a secure backend solely for this restore purpose. If you choose to join the Hold Circle waitlist, we collect the email address you provide for that purpose only.

How your data is used

Your data is used exclusively to power the app — to personalise your experience, schedule reminders, show your recap, and restore your progress. None of it is sold, used for advertising, or shared with third parties for any commercial purpose.

Notifications

If you enable Reminders, Hold uses iOS notification scheduling to deliver a single nudge before your danger window. Notification scheduling runs on-device; no additional data is sent to a server for this purpose.

Data storage & deletion

Your data is stored locally on your device and backed up to our secure backend under your anonymous account. You can permanently delete all data — both on-device and from our servers — at any time via Settings → Account → Delete all data.

How we protect your data

We take reasonable measures to safeguard your information. Data in transit is encrypted over HTTPS/TLS, and your backed-up data is stored on access-controlled infrastructure provided by our backend processor. Because your account is anonymous, the data we hold is not linked to your real-world identity, which limits what any unauthorised access could reveal. That said, no method of transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security and you use the app at your own risk. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify affected users and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

Third-party services

Hold uses the following services:

  • Supabase — anonymous authentication and backup database, used to restore your progress if you reinstall the app.
  • PostHog — product analytics. We record anonymous interaction events (e.g. completing a hold, viewing the paywall) to understand how the app is used and improve it. No urge text, emotion selections, or danger-window times are ever sent. No personally identifiable information is included.
  • RevenueCat — in-app subscription and purchase management.

None of these services are used for advertising, and no data is sold or shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

Children

Hold is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Limitation of liability

Hold is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hold and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of the app or any unauthorised access to, alteration of, or loss of your data.

Hold is not a healthcare, medical, or mental-health application and does not provide medical, psychological, nutritional, or other professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It is a general wellness and mindfulness tool intended to help you build awareness of your own habits. Nothing in the app constitutes healthcare information or a clinical service, and it is not a substitute for the advice of a qualified physician, therapist, dietitian, or other licensed professional. Never disregard or delay seeking professional advice because of something you read or experienced in the app. If you are in crisis or believe you may have a medical or mental-health condition, contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above may not apply to you.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how Hold handles data, we will update this page and note material changes in the App Store release notes.
